The Ian Tan Gallery on South Granville presents Petal Pushing, an exhibition of works by Artist Madeleine Wood from April 28th to May 24th, 2012.

Art has become Madeleine Wood's lifelong passion. Her impulse to record her observations stems from a childhood of limited vision. Myopia, astigmatism, crossed and alternate vision—have all impacted the way Madeleine sees. Isolating her interests through a camera lens, helps her to translate them methodically with oil paint. Described as a meditative process, Madeleine builds each new series as she delves into the elements of its design.

This collection of paintings is inspired by the gardens in Madeleine's neighbourhood on Ships Point, Vancouver Island, where she is fascinated with a certain chosen beauty against the backdrop of mountains and wetlands, with indigenous alder, cedar, maple and fir, creating a hybrid nature.
