Subway Early Works Construction Begins
To maintain access to transit along the Broadway corridor during the construction of the Broadway Subway Project, three routes will be detoured and new trolley wires will be installed to accommodate adjusted routes for the 14, 16, and 17 trolley buses. These changes are temporary for the duration of construction beginning in 2020.
Wires will be installed:
- Along Macdonald Street, between 4th Avenue and Broadway Avenue
- Along 12th Avenue, between Arbutus and Granville Street, and Oak and Cambie Street
- Along Cambie Street, between Broadway Avenue and 12th Avenue
Early work construction began on February 19, 2019. Crews started on 12th Avenue between Arbutus and Granville and at the 12th Avenue and Willow intersection, between Oak and Cambie.
Work is moving swiftly. To date, approximately 85 trolley bases and 35 poles have been installed along 12th Avenue and at seven intersections in the area.
Two week look ahead
You can expect to see City of Vancouver crews continuing this work at the intersection of Burrard and W. 12th, with TransLink crews continuing along W.12th Avenue between Granville and Pine, and Maple and Arbutus. Expect some curb lane closures between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. along W.12th Avenue, as well as potential turning restrictions, to help keep workers, commuters, and equipment safe while this work continues. Some weekend work will be undertaken in order to minimize any potential impact to Emergency Service Vehicles that frequently use W. 12th in this vicinity.
