Before the Stanley, movies could be seen at the Fairview Theatre, later the Roxy, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The Fairview was demolished when Pacific Newspapers built their new printing plant and editorial offices for the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers in the 1960’s The Pacific Press plant was demolished in the 1990s to be replaced with condominiums.

In the park on the west side of the Granville Bridge you can find one of the magnificent Magnolia trees that used to sit in front of the Pacific Press building. It was moved by the developer of the residential development occupying the site.
