Plastic Bag Ban and Disposable Coffee Cup Surcharge In Effect
As of January 1st 2022, the City of Vancouver introduces the following policies around disposable, single-use items:
Plastic bags are now banned. Customers can purchase a paper bag for a minimum of $0.15.
Disposable coffee cups will come with a surcharge of $0.25 that will be directly added to the price of to-go beverages.
The policy is aiming to decrease the amount of plastic pollution in the city and the nearby ocean, and now it’s up to us to make a difference daily. Businesses are to charge these fees directly at check-out.
